Model Characteristics
- No restrictions on areas or loadings. (N.B. Rule 4.3.6 c)
- Model may R.O.G. or be hand-launched
- Detachable undercarriages are permissible for R.O.G.

Fuel is unrestricted (subject to MAAA regulations in regard to the use of banned additives) and to be supplied by the contestant |

Engine
The event is open to any 2.5 cc diesel powered model i.e. Combat, Goodyear, Vintage Team racers or even FAI team racers, bring what you got and fly! any out and out purpose designed speed model will have to conform to all the class 1 MAAA rules i.e. a maximum weight 500 grams, 40 g pull test and 0.3 mm line diameter. Anyone wishing to build such a model should read these Class 1 rules at the link below.

Lines and Handle system
- Two-line system is to be used. No mono line systems.
- Lines are to be of good quality, high tensile, unplated steel and/or steel alloys.
- Commercially graded wire diameters is acceptable.
- Solid line diameter .3 mm (0.012”) or greater
- Multi stranded type lines must be of .38 mm (0.014”) diameter or greater
- All handle and line connections are to be of high quality and able to withstand the required pull test. Any lines, connections or handle connections deemed unsafe will not be permitted to fly.
- No twisting or linking together of the two lines is permitted.
- A safety strap or similar device effectively connecting the pilot and the handle together must be used.
- Double over locking type connectors or similar with a minimum strength of 20 kg [ 44 lbs]. Centre type connectors are not permitted.

Line Length Measurement [Flight Radius]
- Flight radius of 15.92 meters
- Lines shall be measured from the grip edge of the handle grip. Where two or more engines or propellers are employed, the axis of symmetry is taken as the reference for measurement.

Line Tests
Line tests shall be made prior to each flight
- The entire system of safety strap, handle, lines and model shall be subjected to a pull test of 25g
- In addition to the load test, a visual examination is to be made by the Contest Director.
- The Contest Director or other authorised person responsible for checking lines and equipment has the right to disallow any model, on points of safety, even if the requirements of the rules are fulfilled.

10 laps or 1 kilometre. |

Number of Timekeepers and Judges
Whoever is available. This is a fun event and one timekeeper is all that is required but 2 are preferred. Entrants may be asked to assist with timing duties . |

Starting of Timing
For timing to commence, once the model is airborne the pilot must raise his arm for one full lap to indicate that the starting procedure is to begin. It is the pilot’s decision when he will signal to commence timing. |

Timing Procedure
- Upon the pilot raising his arm, the timekeepers shall allow two full laps from opposite the
timekeeping position before starting timing for the appropriate number of laps.
- The time keeper or keepers, in unison, will count down and then up throughout the flight -
that is: 2-1-0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 or 10.
- The official time shall be the average of the watches, the average of the two will count.

Cancellation of a flight
- when any form of assistance is applied for the purpose of increasing the speed of the model, other than that provided by the engine, during the official part of the flight; i.e. whipping or flying across the circle
- For continuous high flying
- jettisoning of other than the take off dolly occurs.

Number of flights and attempts
- Each competitor is entitled to two or three official flights depending on the time limitations of the day
- Two attempts shall constitute an official flight.
- An attempt shall not be more than three minutes.
- A competitor may elect to call an attempt at any stage during the 3 minutes
- The flight is official as soon as the competitor has raised his arm.
