KMFC Safety Rules - updated after July 2011 AGM
KMFC's safety rules are to be read in conjunction with the FAI sporting code - general rules

  1. Maximum line length is 52’6’’ for the Gordon Burford circle and 70’6’’ for the Alan Garland and Bob Palmer circles.
  2. Handles must not have the control lines passing through them, but must have a separate and heavy duty wire, not coated, so that it can be checked for fraying.
  3. Line connectors must be of a type specifically designed for control line flying, and not, for example, fishing swivels. They must be of a size and strength suited to the weight and power of the model.
  4. Equipment may be subject to pull tests in cases of doubt.
  5. As a general rule, cord tethers connecting the pilot’s wrist and the control handle must be used. The tether should be self-tightening on the wrist. This rule is mandatory for aerobatics.
  6. Models with engine capacity above .049 cu in capacity shall generally only be flown on steel control cables. (See Rule 9 for exceptions). (Rule 6 modified 03/08/2011)
  7. Mufflers will generally be used on engines of capacity greater than 2.5cc.
  8. Alcohol must not be consumed by anyone at the club until after the cessation of all flying for the day, non-members included.
  9. The club does not want to restrict new technologies that might make our activities safer. While recognising this, the member is responsible for ensuring that any new technology employed complies with FAI standards or is specifically designed for control line useage. For example control lines made from new materials must comply with FAI standards. (Added 03/08/2011).
  10. Members are reminded that failure to comply with KMFC's safety rules may see their insurance claim for injuring another person rejected and become personally liable for the claim. (Added 03/08/2011)
