Cub stunt - KMFC's aerobatics competition for up and coming fliers
  Introduction
The aims of club stunt are: -
  • To encourage flying skills amongst less experienced flyers.
  • To have an event which is open to all ages and all flying skills, scored on a personal handicap system which enables everyone to compete on an equal footing.
  • To encourage flyers to enter into the spirit of competition where fun and enjoyment are top priorities and yet still provide scope for the serious flyer without the pressure of top class competition.
  • Juniors and seniors fly together as ability not age divides flyers into two classes.

    The two classes

CLASS A - Those capable of flying the complete schedule
CLASS B  - Those who can manage only some of the schedule.
Before the contest those in class B nominate which of the 10 manoeuvres they will be attempting.
A bonus point will be awarded for each manoeuvre attempted to a maximum of 9.

    Trophies and scoring

  • A perpetual trophy will be awarded to the highest total point score at the end of the year. 3 points will awarded for an entry in each event, plus 3 points for a first, 2 points for a second and 1 point for a third in each class.
  • If two contestants tie for the championship then the winner will be the one who has flown in the most competitions over the year.
  • Scoring is by handicap. Your handicap is adjusted after the first and second competitions. From then on the last 2 competitions plus the current event serve to calculate your handicap.
  • If an event is not able to be held for some reason e.g. bad weather, it will be deferred to the next suitable flying day as agreed to by the majority of competitors.

    Rules

  • There are no restrictions on aircraft or equipment, however mufflers must be fitted to engines over 2.5 ccs
  • More than one aircraft can be used if the first becomes un-flyable
  • There will be 2 flights per competition. The better of the 2 will be counted. If a flight is incomplete (due to crash, engine failure) no score will be recorded. The contestant is entitled to have another flight if he so desires, with the same or another aircraft.
  • Aircraft must be fitted with an undercarriage.
  • A competitor may have a helper in the flying circle to call the manoeuvres required in the correct order.
  • If a competitor has nominated a certain manoeuvre, he must carry it out or he will receive a score of zero for that manoeuvre.
  • If a flier is unable to complete a manoeuvre, e.g.’ three consecutive loops, he may have successive attempts at this manoeuvre until he completes it and receives a score or abandons it (and receives a zero score) and continues with his schedule.
  • He cannot come back later as all manoeuvres must be done in order.
  • Once a manoeuvre has been attempted, no matter how badly, it cannot be repeated to gain a better score.
  • A contestant moving from Class A to Class B will fly as a first time entrant to gain a handicap in that class and cannot return to Class B.
  • A contestant shall only be allowed two attempts to complete his schedule.

    Hints for contestants

  • Fliers should be able to start their engines reasonably quickly at the beginning of their flight – within about 1 minute.
  • The contest director may ask you to leave the circle if you have not started your engine within a reasonable period of time.
  • Those not flying the full, schedule, should help save time by having a fuel tank that will comfortably cover their manoeuvres only. An aircraft with an easily removable tank is highly recommended.
  • Those in Class A should similarly take note of the above as there is nothing worse than waiting 5 minutes for a finished competitor to run out of fuel
